Business Mental Health Toolkit

If you run a small or medium-sized business, this toolkit makes it easier for you to support your team’s mental health and wellbeing – without needing a formal programme such as an employee assistance programme. You can use it to quickly find free mental health support services in New Zealand and share them with your staff.

The toolkit brings together trusted, free services and simple resources you can use right away, including:

  • 1737 – free 24/7 counselling by phone or text
  • Access and Choice services – local, community-based mental health support
  • Digital tools – including Groov, the Top Up campaign and practical self-help resources.

Why this matters

Many small to medium sized businesses don’t have a formal employee assistance programme – so it can be hard to know what support is available. This toolkit helps you:

  • make support more visible to your staff
  • reduce barriers to getting help
  • support your team when they need it most.

Improving mental wellbeing at work can help your business, with better engagement, stronger productivity, and healthier teams. Research shows that improving mental health in the workplace can increase productivity by around 6 to 10 per cent, and investing in better mental health in the workplace has returns of around $5 for every $1 invested.
